Interviews are a way of an employer finding out more about you aren’t they? Yes they are, but they’re not just a one way process. Just as the company is trying to find out if you are the right person for the job, you should be trying to ensure that they are the right company for you. If you’re going to get the right role for you at the right company, that means you’re going to have to start asking more questions in your interview.

Having a candidate that asks relevant and insightful questions is so refreshing for an interviewer and it is a key way to differentiate yourselves from other candidates. It shows that you are a candidate that is really serious and genuinely interested about the job on offer, the company in question and the fashion industry in general. If you’re unsure about what sort of questions you should be asking during an interview then check out some of our ideas below. Use some or all of these and you can really boost your chances of securing that dream role in the fashion industry.

What do you like about working for this company?

Is there scope to develop my career within the business?

This is another excellent questions that tells the interviewer several things about you. Firstly, it says that you’re not just someone that wants a job, but wants a career. Secondly, and even more importantly, it says that you are looking to stay and develop within the company. From the company’s point of view, it makes you a very attractive hire as recruitment can be a time consuming and expensive process and a strong and stable workforce is always something to strive for.

Is there anything you think I’ve not covered in the interview or that you would like me to explain further?

This is the number one question you can ask in an interview and you should ask it at the very end of any interview. By asking this at the very end, you are in effect checking that you haven’t missed anything in the interview and if you have, you can have a second chance of explaining it. It has the potential to make a good interview into a great one. It also shows that you are serious about the role and really want it.

So in the next interview you’re in for a job in fashion, remember that by not asking questions like those above you could be seriously hampering your chances of securing the role. Use our example and you can really help yourself get that little bit closer to your dream role.
